ALTERNATIVE DANCE FITNESS FOR WOMEN™

Alternative means "affording a choice of two or more things" so it seems appropriate to call our program "alternative" since we teach several different disciplines of dance. It's also considered "alternative" because what we offer "employs or follows non-traditional or unconventional ideas or methods existing outside the establishment." Pole dance and R-rated yoga? Definitely outside the establishment!

"Alternative Dance Fitness for Women ™" is an umbrella under which we attempt to fit the most invigorating fertility dance classes specifically for women. Every culture has it's fertility dance - Japan, the Geisha Fan Dance. Brazil, the Samba. The Middle East, Belly dance. Hawaiian, the Hula. Latin cultures, Salsa, Tango, Rumba, etc. (see www.urbanfertilitydancer.com for more info)

"Alternative Dance Fitness for Women ™"is also a euphemism for pole dance, lap dance, exotic dance, strip tease classes, or whatever else we offer so that our students can maintain some anonymity and not have every Joe Blow all up in their business about their extracurricular affairs.

Look closely at the vintage photos at the right. They are all dancers who were considered "brazen" or looked upon shamefully decades ago for their dance. Brave women who dared to be expressive. They faced judgment and ridicule as well as applause and adoration. They made it possible for women like me to teach what I teach and women like you to enjoy the freedom of expression. Two of these women are even dancing with poles! *GASP* In the 30's??? Yes, dears, in the 30's.

Where did POLE DANCE come from?

“One Eye Tommy Fallon and Mom Fallon ran a single-O girl show called Princess Pat. The girl who worked it would strip naked and grind herself up against the 'snorting pole', simulating sex with an imagined male lover. The 'snorting pole', or pole in the front of the stage, was often the center tent pole. These cooch and single-O tops were often very small, twenty by thirty feet, so the center pole would be right up against the front of the stage making it available as a 'prop'. Where the carny term 'snorting pole' came from is lost in time. One girl dancer interviewed thought it came from the reaction of the men in the crowd who, she said, 'snorted like pigs when they became excited!'

The snorting pole went from being a prop in cooch and single-O girl shows to being an architectural accoutrement to most go-go dancing stages. It is still a major prop in nude dance clubs”

Well, I think that answers THAT question.

Dancing around the Maypole on May Day, Belly Dance. Hula. Afro-Caribbean, Samba, Geisha, Saloon Girls, Hoochie-Coochie, Afro-Caribbean, Reggae-ton, French Can-Can, Stripease Dancers, the list goes on, and on, and on. Every culture has its unique form of “Fertility Dancing”. The contemporary United States is not unique in this movement. We merely have our own version, which we call “Strippers” or “Exotic Dancers”, but personally, I like to call them “Urban Fertility Dancers”.
